Jerez crowned the champion. Leclerc took pole and led from the front, building a large gap and cruising clear after the mandatory stop, only for a dramatic finish to threaten it all. A clash between Ferrucci and Matsushita at Turn 1 tipped Ferrucci out and brought a safety car that erased Leclerc's lead. But fortune favoured him at the restart: he had just lapped Gelael, who now sat as a buffer between him and Rowland. On badly degrading tyres, Leclerc held off Rowland by barely two tenths to win and mathematically seal the 2017 Formula 2 title with three races to spare. Fuoco charged through to third on fresher rubber, Latifi fourth, Markelov fifth, King sixth, with Rowland taking the fastest lap. Boschung retired with a brake failure. With the drivers' crown settled, Sunday's Sprint became part of the runner-up fight, and Markelov took the win from Latifi and Rowland, with Ghiotto fourth, Fuoco fifth and de Vries sixth and fastest lap. The newly crowned champion watched on as the battle for the places behind him gathered pace heading into the finale.
