The Story

Monza belonged to the chasers. Matsushita took pole, with de Vries and Delétraz behind, while Leclerc qualified seventh in a tightly packed field. The Feature turned on its final lap: Ghiotto crossed the line first while fighting de Vries and Leclerc, but cut the Rettifilo chicane under pressure and was handed a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, demoting him and handing Fuoco the win in his rookie season. Matsushita took second, Latifi third with the fastest lap, Ghiotto fourth, Gelael fifth and Sette Câmara sixth. The decisive carnage came when Leclerc attacked de Vries into the first chicane, ran deep and collided with him at the Rettifilo, leaving de Vries with a puncture and Leclerc plummeting to seventeenth, out of the points. Rowland retired after a loose left-rear following his pit stop, sparing Leclerc's title lead. In the Sprint, Ghiotto redeemed his Feature disappointment with a win on home soil, Sette Câmara second and Fuoco third with the fastest lap. Delétraz, Merhi and Gelael completed the top six, while Leclerc could only manage ninth, leaving Monza with his championship advantage barely dented.
