The Story

F2's 2022 opener at Sakhir delivered drama across both races. Doohan claimed pole, but the Saturday Sprint belonged to Verschoor: he passed reverse-grid leader Drugovich at lights-out and controlled the 23 laps to the flag for Trident. Behind, Hughes and Novalak both collected time penalties for collisions, and Pourchaire retired early with a mechanical issue. Daruvala worked his way to second ahead of Lawson and Boschung, with Drugovich recovering to fifth. Sunday's Feature flipped the script. A lap-one Turn 1 spin for Vesti brought out the safety car, and the pit-stop phase scrambled the order: Vips lost a strong lead to a slow stop, while Doohan tangled at pit exit and tumbled down the field. A late safety car set up a short dash, and Pourchaire held off Lawson by under a second for ART's first win of the campaign. Vips recovered to third, Boschung took fourth, Armstrong fifth and Drugovich sixth. With 25 points to Lawson's 24, Pourchaire led the standings out of the gate, a slender margin that signalled a season of fine swings to come.
