Barcelona delivered one of the season's wildest Features. Ilott took pole by 0.183s from Shwartzman, but the headline started 18th: Matsushita. Armstrong crashed out at Turn 4 on lap one for the first safety car. Strategy and timing then turned the race upside down. Schumacher gambled on a contrarian long hard stint and built a huge lead; meanwhile Matsushita pitted for fresh softs just as a Gelael-Alesi clash brought a second safety car, gifting him track position. A third safety car for Nissany's crash into the Turn 3 barriers set up a sprint to the flag, and on fresh softs Matsushita scythed past Tsunoda and Ilott, with Shwartzman following through. Ilott led most of the race but finished fifth as Matsushita won from 18th. A final-lap collision left Gelael with a fractured vertebra. The reversed-grid Sprint went to Drugovich, who jumped polesitter Ghiotto before Turn 1 and dominated by around nine and a half seconds, completing an MP double. Ghiotto held second from Ilott despite contact, and Schumacher retook third. Lundgaard was penalised for passing off-track. Ilott led Shwartzman by 18 points.
