The Story

F2's COVID-delayed season opened at the Red Bull Ring with Zhou on pole, edging Drugovich and Ilott in a session ended by a late red flag. The Feature became a heartbreak story: Zhou battled Ilott for the lead early, swapping places, before an undercut put Ilott ahead at the stops. Zhou retook the front but his car wilted with mechanical trouble, classified 17th and a lap down. A safety car for Markelov's stop set up a restart on which Schumacher ran wide into the Turn 7 gravel and tumbled from contention. Ilott cruised home for his maiden F2 win ahead of Armstrong and Shwartzman, a Ferrari Academy podium sweep. Ghiotto never started after a sighting-lap failure. The Sunday Sprint was chaos from reversed-grid pole: Drugovich led every lap while Alesi's HWA caught fire on lap 1, Gelael stranded, and Armstrong lost power from third late on. Drugovich won from Delétraz, with Ticktum inheriting a maiden podium in third. Ilott left Austria leading the standings with Shwartzman and Drugovich in close attendance.
