The Story

Monaco was a weekend of grid penalties and metal. Qualifying was split into two groups, with Albon fastest overall for pole; Sette Câmara crashed in qualifying, injured a hand and was ruled out of the weekend, while Norris took a grid penalty for impeding. In the Feature, a first-corner shove from Fuoco put Ghiotto into the wall to bring out the safety car, and the race was decided beneath it: Albon and de Vries both dived for the pits simultaneously and collided, leaving Albon facing the wrong way and both out. That handed the lead to Markelov, who ran the alternate strategy beautifully on fresh rubber to win by over ten seconds, ahead of Gelael and Merhi on the podium. Russell crashed early at Rascasse, Fuoco served a drive-through, and Norris took a drive-through for putting Boschung into the wall yet still recovered to sixth. The Sprint was a crash-strewn affair won lights-to-flag by Fuoco for Charouz. Russell and Albon both crashed out again, and a flurry of post-race penalties for safety-car infringements shuffled the order, dropping Norris from second to third behind Delétraz and completing a Charouz one-three. Norris left Monaco still leading.
