Early Life and Karting
Felipe Drugovich Roncato was born on 23 May 2000 in Maringa, in the Brazilian state of Parana. Like most of his generation he learned his craft in karting, racing across Brazilian and European championships through the early 2010s before stepping into single-seaters. He also holds Italian citizenship, a reflection of the European path his career would soon take.
The Junior Ladder
Drugovich cut his teeth in Formula 4, finishing third in the 2017 ADAC F4 series with seven wins. His breakthrough came in 2018, when he reunited with RP Motorsport to contest the Euroformula Open. He simply ran away with it: a record fourteen wins, a podium in every single race, and the title wrapped up at Monza with two rounds still to run. It was the kind of crushing campaign that announces a serious talent.
The step up to the inaugural FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2019 was far harder. Driving for Carlin, he managed just eight points across the season and finished a quiet sixteenth in the standings, a humbling reminder of how steep the modern junior ladder had become.
Formula 2 and the 2022 Title
Drugovich went straight from F3 into FIA Formula 2 for 2020, joining MP Motorsport. He impressed immediately, taking three feature-style wins and ninth in the championship. A 2021 switch to UNI-Virtuosi Racing yielded four podiums but no wins and only eighth place, leaving him with a point to prove.
So he went back to MP Motorsport for 2022, and the partnership detonated. Drugovich won five races, took four poles and stood on the podium eleven times, dominating with such authority that he clinched the title at Monza with three races to spare. He finished 265 points to runner-up Theo Pourchaire's 164, a 101-point chasm. He became the first MP Motorsport driver to win the F2 crown and the first Brazilian champion of F1's second tier since Bruno Junqueira in 2000, beating future grand prix drivers including Liam Lawson, Logan Sargeant and Jack Doohan along the way.
Aston Martin and Beyond
That title did not, frustratingly, convert into an F1 race seat. Instead Drugovich became Aston Martin's reserve and test driver, making his official F1 bow in FP1 at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and going on to drive several further practice sessions, including the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix when Fernando Alonso was sidelined. With the F1 door still ajar, he broadened his portfolio into sportscars and made his Formula E debut in 2025, keeping a champion's options open.
