The Story

Imola began with a knife-edge qualifying: Beganovic took his maiden F2 pole by hundredths from Montoya and Martins, a session ended early by a red flag. In the Sprint, Crawford passed reverse-grid pole-sitter Miyata at Turn 2 on the opening lap and checked out, winning ahead of Lindblad and Browning, with Miyata sliding back through the field as Lindblad, Browning and Martins all picked him off into Turn 2. Verschoor retired. The Feature belonged to Dunne, his second Feature win of the year. Starting fifth, he was helped by a slick Rodin pit stop and fresher tyres, scything forward with a string of moves into the Tosa hairpin to build a six-second cushion over Browning and Beganovic, who completed a strong day for Hitech. Both Montoya and Martins were caught out by stalls around the start. Minì set the fastest lap but, finishing outside the top ten, was ineligible, so Lindblad took the bonus point. Dunne's win moved him into the championship lead for the first time, ahead of Browning and Verschoor.
