The Story

The Hungaroring closed the first half of the season before the summer break. Iwasa took pole. In the Sprint, Doohan started from reverse-grid pole and briefly lost the lead to Fittipaldi off the line, but capitalised on a Fittipaldi lock-up to retake the lead at Turn 2 and cruised home ahead of Vips and Fittipaldi. A first-lap collision eliminated both Hauger and Sargeant on the spot, while Verschoor set fastest lap but lost his result to a penalty for incorrectly serving an earlier sanction. Drugovich recovered to fourth. The Feature was Pourchaire's, the Frenchman winning from fourth on the grid via a strong undercut and careful tyre management, with Fittipaldi second and Iwasa third ahead of Vesti. Title rival Drugovich slid down the order on strategy and finished outside the points, while Doohan retired early with a mechanical failure. Pourchaire's third win of the year was framed as reigniting the title fight before the break, trimming the gap to the runaway leader. Drugovich still held a commanding advantage heading into the summer, but Pourchaire's late-half resurgence ensured the championship narrative remained alive as the paddock paused.
