The Story

Rain hit qualifying at the Hungaroring, where de Vries mastered the wet to take pole ahead of Ghiotto. In the Feature, polesitter de Vries ran wide at Turn 1 and Latifi seized the lead from third — the decisive move of the race. Latifi then showed remarkable tyre longevity on the soft Pirellis, withstanding de Vries's undercut attempt and managing his gap as alternate-strategy runners came and went. A late safety car bunched the field after Boschung's car failed, but Latifi held on to win from de Vries and Aitken, who had jumped through the stops to a fine podium. A post-race penalty reshuffle saw Ghiotto and King have provisional time penalties rescinded, restoring them to fourth and fifth. Sunday's Sprint was Schumacher's. From reverse-grid pole he aced the start and managed his tyres superbly, holding off a closing Matsushita over the final laps to win, with Sette Câmara third. Calderón was the sole retirement. de Vries left Hungary with a 30-point championship lead over Latifi and four rounds remaining.
