The Story

Bahrain opened the season under the desert lights of Sakhir. Ghiotto claimed pole for UNI-Virtuosi, but a poor getaway off the line dropped him down the order and handed Delétraz the early lead. Latifi was the man on the charge, working his DAMS to the front in the first stint before a slow pit stop spat him back into the pack. Unfazed, the Canadian carved his way back through on fresher rubber to retake control and win comfortably from Ghiotto, with team-mate Sette Câmara completing the podium and rookie Hubert an eye-catching fourth. Gelael spun out early. On Sunday's Sprint, reverse-grid pole-sitter Schumacher led at the start but soon faded. The story was Ghiotto, who pulled off an audacious one-stop gamble: he pitted in the second half, dropped out of the top ten, then scythed back through on fresh tyres. He dispatched Sette Câmara down the inside of Turn 13 in the closing laps to win, with Sette Câmara second and Latifi third. Alesi was disqualified for a tyre infringement. Ghiotto left Bahrain leading the championship from Latifi.
