About Bob Scott
Robert Scott: A Glimpse into a Truncated Career
Robert Franklin Scott, an American racing driver, was born on October 4, 1928, in Watsonville, California. His professional journey in motorsport, though brief, included participation in events that were, for a period, officially recognized as part of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
World Championship Involvement and Tragic End
Scott's career coincided with a unique chapter in Formula 1 history: the inclusion of the Indianapolis 500 as a round of the FIA World Championship between 1950 and 1960. During this decade, drivers who competed at the legendary Brickyard were credited with World Championship participation and had the opportunity to earn championship points. Robert Scott made three such World Championship appearances. Despite these entries, he did not accumulate any World Championship points throughout his involvement. His life and racing career were tragically cut short on July 5, 1954, when he succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash during a Champ Car race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
