Campos Racing is the senior name in Spanish single-seater racing: a team born from one man's love of the sport, carried through two decades of feeder-series competition, and reborn in the 2020s as a championship-winning force in FIA Formula 3 and a title contender in FIA Formula 2. Founded by former Formula One driver Adrian Campos and based in Alzira, near Valencia, the squad has put more than forty drivers through its garages across the F2 and F3 eras—one of the largest alumni rosters on the modern junior ladder—while finally converting that experience into silverware: the 2025 and 2026 F3 Teams' titles.

Origins

Adrian Campos contested Formula One in 1987 and 1988 before turning to team ownership, establishing the operation in 1997. The Spanish outfit built its early reputation in domestic and regional single-seaters, and it became a recognised launchpad for talent: in 1999 a young Fernando Alonso took the Euro Open Movistar by Nissan title driving for the team, an early signal of Campos's eye for emerging ability. The squad then graduated to GP2—the direct forerunner of today's Formula 2—competing from the championship's inaugural 2005 season and winning the GP2 Teams' Championship in 2008.

The Adrian Campos legacy

The lineage is more tangled than it first appears. After the 2008 GP2 title, Adrian Campos handed control of that particular entry to businessman Alejandro Agag, who rebranded it as Addax Team—later Barwa Addax—which went on to win the 2009 GP2 Teams' Championship as a separate organisation. Campos himself later re-established the Campos Racing name on the grid, returning to GP2 in 2014 and joining GP3 in 2015, before stepping up to the rebranded FIA Formula 2 Championship from its 2017 debut season and adding an FIA Formula 3 programme in 2019. Adrian Campos died on 28 January 2021; the team continued under the family banner, with his son taking on the leadership, and pressed on without losing its identity.

From midfield to champions

For much of the modern F2 and F3 era Campos was a respected midfield constant rather than a title contender, a place where rising names cut their teeth—Lando Norris made a one-off F2 cameo with the team at Abu Dhabi in 2017 before his full-time campaign elsewhere, and the roster has run a long list of internationals through both championships. The breakthrough came late and decisively. Campos claimed its first FIA Formula 3 Teams' Championship in 2025, sealed in the closing rounds, then defended it in 2026, sealing it in the first Feature Race of the Madrid finale as Ugo Ugochukwu took the Drivers' title; in FIA Formula 2 it entered the closing stretch of 2026 leading the Teams' Championship, with that title still to be decided.

Identity

Campos Racing is unmistakably Spanish: founded by a Spanish ex-Formula One driver, rooted in Alzira in the Valencia region, and one of the few constructors to span the entire arc from the early GP2 grids to the present FIA F2/F3 framework. Its defining traits are continuity and volume—a high count of drivers given a competitive seat, and an institutional memory that few rivals match—now finally matched by the championship results the name had long pursued.
