Early life and junior career

Victor Martins was born on 16 June 2001 in Quincy-sous-Sénart, France, to a French mother and a Portuguese father. He climbed the single-seater ladder through karting and French Formula 4 before joining the Renault Sport Academy in January 2018, the junior programme that would shape much of his early career. After a spell in Formula Renault Eurocup, he was released from the Renault programme at the end of 2019.

Formula Renault Eurocup champion

Martins announced himself as one of France's brightest prospects in 2020, winning the Formula Renault Eurocup title with ART Grand Prix. His championship campaign was emphatic, built on seven victories and a long run of consecutive podium finishes, marking him out as a driver ready for the next step.

Formula 3: runner-up to champion

Martins moved up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 with MP Motorsport. In a competitive rookie season he took a single race win and finished fifth overall as the category's leading newcomer, scoring 131 points. In February 2021 he also rejoined the Alpine F1 Team academy, restoring the manufacturer backing that had lapsed.

For 2022 he switched to ART Grand Prix and delivered the defining result of his junior years. With two wins and a consistent points-scoring campaign, Martins clinched the FIA Formula 3 title at the Monza finale, becoming the first F3 drivers' champion for a team other than Prema.

Three seasons in Formula 2

Martins stepped up to the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2023, again with ART Grand Prix, and remained with the French team for all three of his F2 seasons. His rookie year was his strongest: he took his maiden feature-race win at Silverstone, collected nine podiums and finished fifth in the standings, earning the Anthoine Hubert Award as the championship's top rookie.

Progress proved harder to come by thereafter. In 2024 he scored one win and five podiums on his way to seventh in the standings, before a tougher 2025 campaign that again included a single victory but left him eleventh overall. Across his time in the category he was unable to better that rookie-season result.

Academy switch and move to endurance racing

Ahead of the 2025 season Martins was dropped by the Alpine Academy, and on 31 March 2025 he joined the Williams Driver Academy as one of its members, taking on a Formula 1 test and development role. After three years in Formula 2 he stepped away from the junior single-seater ladder, moving into sportscar racing for 2026 with the Alpine Endurance Team in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship while continuing his Williams test duties.
