Jonny Edgar (born 2004) is a British racing driver and former Red Bull Junior Team member whose FIA Formula 3 career was defined as much by his resilience in the face of illness as by his on-track speed.
Red Bull Junior
Edgar was recruited into the Red Bull Junior Team in September 2017, signed alongside future names such as Dennis Hauger and Jack Doohan. He progressed through the junior single-seater ranks under the Red Bull banner toward FIA Formula 3.
Formula 3
Edgar made his FIA Formula 3 debut in 2021 with Carlin Buzz Racing, scoring points early but ending the season 18th overall. For 2022 he switched to the reigning team champions Trident, but his campaign was derailed when he was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in April and forced to withdraw. He fought back to return at the Silverstone round and scored points there with an eighth-place finish in the feature race, a comeback widely praised in the paddock.
Edgar's strongest season came in 2023, again with Trident: he finished 12th in the standings and helped the team to runner-up in the teams' championship, notably being the highest-placed driver to have missed at least two rounds. He left the Red Bull Junior Team around this period.
Edgar's F3 record reflects real talent interrupted by serious health setbacks, from which he repeatedly returned to competitive racing.
