Hugh Barter is an Australian racing driver who made his FIA Formula 3 debut in 2023 with Campos Racing. Japanese-born but raised in Australia, he was 17 when he stepped up to the championship.
Barter built his reputation in Formula 4 with Campos, finishing runner-up in both the 2022 Spanish F4 Championship (with six wins and four poles) and the 2022 French F4 Championship. That form earned him promotion to the team's F3 line-up for 2023, alongside fellow Australian Christian Mansell.
His rookie F3 campaign was tough. He waited until the fifth round at the Red Bull Ring to open his points account and recorded sixth-place sprint finishes at Silverstone and Spa as his highlights. He did not complete the season, being replaced (by Josh Dufek) before the Monza finale, and ended the year 19th overall with 14 points.
