Raffaele Marciello is an Italian-Swiss racing driver who was one of the most highly rated single-seater talents of his generation before reinventing himself as a GT and endurance star. A Ferrari Driver Academy member, he climbed the junior ladder through karting and the Formula 3 ranks, winning the 2013 FIA European Formula 3 Championship in dominant fashion with Prema Powerteam.
GP2 / Formula 2
Marciello spent three seasons in GP2, the championship that became FIA Formula 2 in 2017. He debuted in 2014 with Racing Engineering, taking a memorable wet feature-race win at Spa-Francorchamps after a tense battle with Stoffel Vandoorne, and finished eighth overall despite an inconsistent campaign. For 2015 he switched to Trident, qualifying strongly throughout and again scoring multiple podiums on his way to seventh in the standings. In 2016 he joined Russian Time and posted his best series result, fourth in the points with six podiums. Alongside his GP2 program he served as a reserve and test driver for the Sauber Formula 1 team in 2015, though a race seat never materialised.
Under the FIA Formula 2 banner, Marciello returned for a one-off appearance with Trident at the 2017 Austrian round, briefly stepping back into single-seaters while his career was already pivoting toward sports cars.
After F2
From 2017 Marciello moved into GT racing, becoming a works Mercedes-AMG driver and one of the benchmark GT3 performers in the world. He won the 2022 Spa 24 Hours, claimed multiple GT World Challenge honours, and was renowned for his blistering single-lap qualifying pace. After leaving Mercedes he signed with BMW, and in 2024 stepped up to the FIA World Endurance Championship's top-flight Hypercar class with the factory-backed WRT team, sharing a BMW M Hybrid V8 with Dries Vanthoor and Marco Wittmann. His career is a textbook example of a fast junior driver who found his true home in the GT and endurance world.
