Oliver Rowland (born 30 August 1992 in Barnsley, England) is a British racing driver who was a front-runner in GP2/Formula 2 before becoming the 2024–25 ABB FIA Formula E World Champion.
Junior career and Formula 2
Rowland built his reputation in Formula Renault, winning the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, before moving up the ladder and finishing runner-up in the 2015 GP2 Series with MP Motorsport. For the rebranded FIA Formula 2 Championship's first season in 2017 he moved to DAMS, where he raced alongside the field's dominant figure, eventual champion Charles Leclerc. Rowland was one of Leclerc's most serious challengers that year: he took a memorable feature-race win in the streets of Monaco (inheriting the lead as Leclerc retired) and fought at the front through the season, though disqualifications — including a notable joint exclusion with Leclerc at Spa — cost him points in a campaign Leclerc ran away with.
Formula E and the world title
Rowland transitioned to Formula E, spending time with Nissan e.dams, Mahindra and others before settling into a leading role with the Nissan Formula E Team. Long regarded as one of the grid's fastest drivers, he finally converted that speed into silverware in the 2024–25 season, wrapping up the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the Berlin E-Prix with two races to spare on the back of multiple victories and podiums. Nissan retained him alongside Norman Nato for the following campaign.
