Marino Sato (born 12 May 1999 in Tokyo) is a Japanese racing driver who spent four seasons in the FIA Formula 2 Championship between 2019 and 2022.
Formula 2
Sato stepped up to F2 in mid-2019, replacing Arjun Maini at Campos Racing from the Spa-Francorchamps round and making his official debut in the Monza feature race. He completed that part-season without scoring.
For 2020 he joined Trident alongside Roy Nissany, managing a single point at Mugello to finish 22nd in the standings. He was retained by Trident in 2021 and equalled his career-best result of eighth in the second race of the opening round, his only points score that year, ending up 21st. He stayed in the series in 2022, this time with Virtuosi Racing alongside Jack Doohan.
Across his F2 career Sato made 81 starts with five points finishes and a best result of eighth, achieved four times — a tough run against well-funded rivals in midfield machinery.
After Formula 2
Sato switched to sportscars from 2023, racing in the LMP2 class of the European Le Mans Series with United Autosports alongside Philip Hanson and Oliver Jarvis, taking three victories in the campaign — a more rewarding chapter than his single-seater years.
