The climb

Mari Boya — full name José María Navalón Boya, born on 13 April 2004 in Les, in Catalonia's Val d'Aran near the Andorran border — is a Spanish racing driver who became the first signing of Aston Martin's driver academy. He was a karting prodigy, winning Spanish karting titles in 2015, 2016 (Cadet classes) and 2018 (Junior), plus the 2018 IAME Winter Cup.

Junior single-seaters

Boya broke into cars in Spanish F4 in 2020 with MP Motorsport, taking three wins and fourteen podiums to finish runner-up on 272 points behind teammate Kas Haverkort. He then spent two years in the Formula Regional European Championship — 14th in 2021 with Van Amersfoort Racing (a podium at Valencia) and 10th in 2022 with ART/MP.

Formula 3

Boya graduated to FIA Formula 3 in 2023 with MP Motorsport (17th, 29 points, a podium), then switched to Campos Racing. The 2024 campaign brought his maiden F3 win in the Barcelona sprint and a career step to 15th. He saved his best for 2025, again with Campos: a career-high third in the championship on 116 points, headlined by a feature-race victory at Silverstone and five podiums, with a fine second place at the Macau Grand Prix to close the year.

After F3

In 2025 Boya joined the newly launched Aston Martin Aramco Driver Academy as its very first member, continuing under the AMF1 Driver Development Programme.

2026 season

Boya moved up to FIA Formula 2 in 2026 with PREMA Racing, partnering Sebastián Montoya. The opening Melbourne round was bruising — he hit the barriers twice and started both races from the back, salvaging 13th in the Feature — but at Miami he produced a standout recovery from 16th to 7th in tricky conditions for his first F2 points. After the early rounds he sat 20th in the championship on 10 points. With Aston Martin backing and a strong final F3 year behind him, the Spaniard's rookie F2 season is a story still being written. The season is ongoing.
