This entry covers Johnny Cecotto Jr, the Venezuelan single-seater racer, not his father Johnny Cecotto Sr — the 1970s–80s motorcycle world champion who later raced in Formula 1. Johnny Cecotto Jr made his name as one of the most experienced drivers of the GP2/Formula 2 era.

GP2 and Formula 2

Cecotto Jr was a fixture of GP2 across many seasons with a string of teams, amassing a record number of starts in the category before it was rebranded as the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017. By the time GP2 ended, he held the all-time record for series starts — a mark that can never be beaten — with four feature wins to his name.

For the inaugural 2017 F2 season he raced for Rapax alongside McLaren junior Nyck de Vries. The Monaco sprint race was a highlight: Cecotto started from pole, only for de Vries to sweep around the outside at Sainte Dévote and take Rapax's first win since Sirotkin in 2015. Cecotto did claim a podium during the campaign, but 2017 marked the closing chapter of his long feeder-series career.

After F2, Cecotto moved into GT and sportscar racing.
