Junior career
Frederik Vesti (born 13 January 2002) is a Danish racing driver and long-time Mercedes junior who became one of the standout talents of the FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2 ladder. He announced himself by winning the inaugural Formula Regional European Championship in 2019 with Prema Powerteam, dominating the season with 13 victories and finishing well clear of the field.
Formula 3
Vesti contested two FIA Formula 3 campaigns. In 2020 he raced for Prema Racing alongside future F1 drivers Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargeant, taking three wins and finishing fourth in the standings. He switched to ART Grand Prix for 2021, again finishing fourth with a further victory. In January 2021 he was signed to the Mercedes Junior Team, the first Mercedes junior to follow George Russell's path up the ladder. He holds the record for the most points scored in the modern FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Formula 2
Vesti stepped up to Formula 2 in 2022, remaining with ART Grand Prix. It was a learning year: he took one win, five podiums and finished ninth overall. He moved to Prema Racing for 2023 alongside Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman and delivered a title charge, scoring six wins and ten podiums to finish runner-up by just 11 points to Theo Pourchaire.
After F2
On the strength of that 2023 season Vesti was named a Mercedes Formula 1 reserve driver for 2024, a role he continued into 2025-2026, completing practice outings for the team while pursuing further opportunities in top-level machinery. He reached the threshold of F1 without securing a full race seat, but remains one of the more accomplished graduates of the junior single-seater ladder.
