Callum Ilott is a British racing driver who came within a single championship of Formula 1 as the 2020 FIA Formula 2 runner-up, before building a career in IndyCar and endurance racing.
Junior career
Ilott rose through the FIA Formula 3 European Championship: a rookie season with Carlin in 2015 (12th), two wins with Van Amersfoort Racing in 2016 (6th), and a standout 2017 campaign with Prema Powerteam, where six wins and eleven podiums earned him fourth overall and a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy. In 2018 he raced in GP3 with ART Grand Prix, finishing third with two victories alongside teammates Nikita Mazepin and the late Anthoine Hubert.
Formula 2
Ilott made his Formula 2 debut at Silverstone in 2017 with Trident. He contested a full season in 2019 with Sauber Junior Team by Charouz, taking two podiums and his maiden pole at Monza for eleventh in the standings. His breakthrough came in 2020 with UNI-Virtuosi Racing, partnering Zhou Guanyu: three wins, five poles and six podiums made him runner-up to Mick Schumacher in a tight title fight.
After F2
As a Ferrari junior, Ilott became Scuderia Ferrari test driver for 2021 and served as Alfa Romeo reserve, making FP1 appearances at the Portuguese and Austrian Grands Prix — but a race seat never materialised. He pivoted to the United States, making his IndyCar debut in 2021 with Juncos Hollinger Racing and later racing for Prema. He also competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024 with Jota in the Hypercar class.
